Children/Teens Counselling & Therapy

After obtaining his Postgraduate Diploma in Education, David taught the English Language and History in both government and private schools in Singapore, as a teacher, lecturer and Head of Department. After more than 10 years of experience in both teaching and counselling, David realised many children/teens really needed help in issues/problems with themselves, peers and elders.

Helping children/teens address and resolve these issues frequently resulted in greater maturity and emotional stability. These children/teens would then go on to achieve better grades and better relationships with their parents and peers. David understands the pressures and stresses our children and teenagers face in Singapore. Singapore’s fast-paced society and development mainly emphasise academic achievements and conformity. However, there are many paths to success (regardless of definition). It is important to help our young people find their confidence and have a healthy self-esteem. CounsellingWerkz’s mission is to HELP EVERYONE obtain the goal(s) they are determined and committed to achieve.

David’s training and experience, together with his compassion and empathy help him understand and share the issues and problems many tweens and teens face such as identity, emotions, security, communication, GBR, and relationship problems with themselves, peers and elders. Young people usually find David easy to talk to: He listens to them patiently while his open-minded and non-judgmental manner helps young people feel comfortable speaking to him. He acknowledges their points of view while challenging them with alternative positions. Importantly, David also emphasises values such as respect and tolerance for others, humility, patience, kindness and compassion, as well as courage and determination in the pursuit of goals.

Family & Couples Counselling & Therapy

Helping children and teens also includes teaching parents communication and parenting skills to deal effectively and constructively with the current generation. The objectives of family therapy are to create greater understanding and better interactions among members, ultimately leading to cohesive family units growing with each other and in harmony.

David is familiar with and practices the Gottman Method for Couples Counselling and Marriage Therapy. John Gottman is the foremost expert on Marriage/Relationship Therapy in North America. His methods are based upon rigorous scientific research and have proven to be highly effective in helping couples improve/rescue their marriages and relationships.
